Action, animation and horror straight ahead in September. Here’s a preview of upcoming films.
“Riddick” has Vin Diesel returning as the guy who can see in the dark. That comes in handy in this sequel to the unexpected sci-fi hit, “Pitch Black.” As a matter of fact, let’s forget about the films that came between then (the 1990’s) and now. It looks like Diesel is the go-to guy when you’re on an alien planet in the dark with thousands, even tens of thousands of night-flying creatures that want to rip you apart. Universal is screening this film in advance for critics and that’s always a good sign.
“Insidious: Chapter Two.” is a horror film that I’m really looking forward to seeing. The first installment was one of the scariest PG-13 films I’ve seen in many moons. The sequel is rated “R.” I hope that’s not a bad sign. James Wan is proving himself an excellent director who knows how to generate conspicuous amounts of suspense. I’m hoping for the best.
“Battle of the Year”-You should be dancing, dancing, DANCING. I’m a dancing machine. If you got the moves, then perhaps you’ll like “Battle of the Year” a new dance flick from Sony. Josh Holloway stars as a guy who wants to bring a dance competition championship back to the United States. Hey, that’s where it belongs, right?
“Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2” is not expected to be a finalist for the feature-length animation Oscar this year. It’s mainly a babysitting tool for post-summer pre-teens. Don’t expect much and you won’t be disappointed.
