DVD Review: The Fields

“The Fields” is a horror-thriller that’s a bit deceptive .  It claims to be about an unseen presence in an old cornfield that threatens a boy living with his grandparents in a rural Pennsylvania community.  Instead it’s a tedious story purportedly based on true events that occurred in 1973 and anything but supernatural.

Cloris Leachman stars as the boy’s salty old grandma and Tara Reid is in a few scenes as the boy’s mother.  The film also seems to be stocked with a few creepy characters that may or may not have anything to do with the alleged stalking of Leachman’s home.

The film has one particularly disgusting scene that telegraphs the ending.  And, it’s just in bad taste, not scary.

All along I felt sympathy for Cloris Leachman, stuck in this dreadfully dull film, marketed around her talents.  Poorly written and mostly a yawn, “The Fields” should be cleared for a better story.  Grade: D
